Bear Givhan

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

  • Bear is the Founder and CEO of Earthview and drives the company’s technology, vision, and growth. He began his career in methane monitoring as a commercial pilot, flying methane monitoring aircraft in nearly every oil and gas basin from Alaska to Mexico. Bear earned a BA, Geology, from the University of Colorado and is an instrument-rated commercial pilot.

Jim Maslanik, PhD

Co-Founder & Chief Scientist

  • Jim has over 40 years of experience in remote sensing, environmental monitoring, and climate research. He became intrigued about methane monitoring while researching methane releases from the Artic permafrost. Jim developed the initial version of the BluBird sensor and has been instrumental in its development. His education includes a BS, Forest Science, Pennsylvania State University, a Master’s in Environmental Pollution Controls, Pennsylvania State University, and a PhD, Climatology, University of Colorado. He retired from the University of Colorado as an Emeritus Research Professor in Aerospace Engineering Sciences in 2012.

Lincoln Bleveans

Executive Director

  • Mr. Bleveans has been an executive in the global energy industry for over 25 years, focused on electric power and sustainability. His experience spans the globe and the energy value chain, from emerging technologies to independent power project (IPP) development to utility operations. He is an internationally recognized thought-leader, writer, and speaker on energy and sustainability.

    He is now Executive Director of Sustainability & Energy Management at Stanford University, leading the University's mission-critical operations and world-leading innovation in sustainability generally and electricity, thermal energy, and water and wastewater in particular. Most recently, he was an executive at Burbank Water & Power, an innovative and high-performing electric and water utility in southern California providing reliable, affordable, sustainable power and innovative solutions to media giants and residential customers alike.

Michael Root

Professional Geologist

  • Michael Root is a successful Petroleum Geologist, having worked for major and independent oil and gas companies before founding TerraQuest Corporation in the mid-1980s. Through his vision and direction, TerraQuest discovered, developed, and ultimately sold more than 20 producing oil and gas properties in the mid-continent before pivoting the company into the development of renewable energy resources in the early 2000s. Mr. Root was associated with the development and ultimate sale of two, utility-scale wind projects in Oklahoma and New Mexico. Both projects are now in commercial operation.

    Concurrent with his energy resource development activities, Mr. Root acquired a small weather services company and helped to grow the company into one of the leaders in the industry before its ultimate sale to AccuWeather, Inc. in 2015. Mr. Root is also a prolific creator of new technologies and is the inventor or co-inventor of 37 U.S. Patents and more than 30 Foreign Patents, with more than 20 Patent Applications currently pending in seven countries. Most of these assets have been commercialized and are in the fields of location-based services, wearable devices, environmental and climate forecasting, and the collection of weather and climate data.

    Mr. Root is a Certified Professional Geologist, from the American Institute of Professional Geologists; a Registered Geologist, in the State of Missouri; a Licensed Geoscientist, in the State of Texas; a Certified Independent Professional Earth Scientist, from the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists; and a Certified Petroleum Geologist, from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Mr. Root holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Geology from the University of Alaska, at Fairbanks.
